  • About the Climb

Group Therapy follows a line of wide cracks and easy off-widths on Angel Food Wall, just right of Tunnel Vision. Although the wide cracks can be a little tricky to protect, the climbing is never too hard, thanks to the many face holds. It is possible to protect the crux roof moves very well with big cams. Note that there are no bolts on this route. Group Therapy is a good alternative if its busy neighbor Tunnel Vision has a long line.

    Possible Combinations

There are no direct combinations possible. If you want to climb another route on Angel Food Wall, you have to walk off back to the base. This takes about 30-45 minutes. You can climb the popular Tunnel Vision (5.7), which might not have a line in the afternoon. Another great new and varied route is Purblind Pillar (5.8) which starts only a few yards to the right of Group Therapy. If you have already climbed these suggested routes, you might want to try Stilgar's Wild Ride (5.8), which is a spicy route for the grade and has some interesting chimney climbing.

    Similar Climbs

Tunnel Vision (5.7), Purblind Pillar (5.8), and Stilgar's Wild Ride (5.8) on Angel Food Wall are all a little similar to Group Therapy, but with less wide crack sections.

If you like wide cracks, you should also try Myster Z (5.7) in Juniper Canyon. It has several sections of easy low-angle wide cracks with quality steming. Although Myster Z is not a super quality route on its own, it is a nice way to reach the Brownstone Wall, which has great routes like Black Dagger (5.7) and the one of a kind Armatron (5.9).

If you really like big cracks and airy chimneys, you should go for the ultra-classic Epinephrine (5.9), perhaps the most famous 5.9 routes in the States. Here you'll deal with 3 full pitches of 5.9 chimney! Note that this is a step up in difficulty and commitment compared to Group Therapy.
